Job Description

If so, we have a unique opportunity for you to join the fun and dynamic Special Populations team! You will be the face of JCPL to Jefferson County's diverse communities, with a focus on Spanish speakers, immigrants, people with disabilities, the GLBTQ+ community and low income populations including people experiencing homelessness. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Displays passion for serving traditionally underserved groups and has high level of cultural competence.
  • Provides outreach, presentations and instruction to diverse communities, especially Spanish speakers.
  • Cultivates connections with organizations, schools, businesses and religious organizations.
  • Works with other cross-functional teams to accomplish goals and objectives of the library system.
  • Creates and executes library programs throughout the county.
  • Represents the library on countywide groups and committees.
  • Performs customer service, reference and appointment services periodically.
  • Conducts engaging, fun story times to promote early literacy development.
  • Translate English marketing and customer service documents from English into Spanish.
  • Purchases and maintains the Spanish collection under guidance from supervisor.
  • Contributes to the positive and inviting atmosphere of JCPL by displaying high-level customer service skills, empathy and patience.
  • Complies with laws governing patron privacy and confidentiality under CRS24-90-119 and the Code of Ethics of the American Library Association as well as ADA law governing public access to space and technology. 

Additional Info & Requirements

  • A minimum of 1 year of library experience.
  • Experience serving diverse communities and age groups.
  • Spanish fluency required (written and spoken); ASL fluency preferred.
  • Experience in collection development and acquisition preferred.
  • Intermediate level reading, writing and math skills.
  • Computer and technology skills as appropriate for the position, including MS Office Suite.
