Job Summary

University Libraries at CU Boulder encourages applications for three Evening/Weekend Service Specialists! These positions provide customer service at multiple Norlin Library service points and support the student staff on the weekends/evenings. The positions work across multiple services to provide staff coverage as needed. The Specialists will ensure the safety of Libraries' patrons and staff; hire, train and lead student employees, deploying; and ensure the proper opening and or closing of the building as required.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Provide user centered customer service and oversight of student employees:

  • Staffs in-person service points in Norlin library
  • General patron services - wayfinding, circulation, printing, scanning, research assistance, materials access, (using stacks, microform machines, etc.), and appropriate referrals
  • Able to assist with other library services and routine patron account needs (study rooms, reserves, etc.)
  • Explains Libraries and campus policies to patrons and addresses security concerns for patrons and employees
  • Oversees/leads students on Norlin service points during evening and weekend hours
  • Work with other service point supervisors to ensure successful scheduling and collaboration
  • Trains student personnel on service point policies and procedures and works closely with student supervisors to provide feedback on training needs

Coordinate Norlin Security services:

  • Coordinates and maintains Norlin Library’s Security operations, including opening and closing the building, ensuring appropriate access, detecting policy violations, monitoring building video surveillance, and supporting emergency staff during building emergencies.
  • Organize and maintain in-person services (desks, patrols, and Security office) through student employee oversight and direction during evening and weekend hours of operation
  • Train students personnel on security policies and emergency procedures and works closely with student supervisors to provide feedback on training needs
  • Provides additional security support to other library branches when needed
  • Works closely with supervisor, the Manager, and Security section to provide feedback on services and recommends changes as needed
  • Maintains statistics regarding building use and documents security incidents

Collaborate with other Section and Team Members and other services partners:

  • Supervise and evaluate current services, procedures, practices, and documentation for improvements
  • Makes suggestions and recommendations when necessary
  • Works closely with Norlin Services by providing support for circulation
  • Stays up to date with any changes

What You Should Know

There are 3 fully in-person positions, one for each shift option, as follows:

  • This role is in the Norlin Branch and Online service section, working the following schedule: Saturday and Sunday 10-6; Monday - Wednesday 4pm - midnight.
  • This role is in the Security Operations section, working the following schedule: Sunday - Thursday 4pm - midnight.
  • This role is in the Security Operations Section, working the following schedule: Sunday, Monday, and Thursday 4pm-12am; Friday and Saturday 10-6pm

Schedule may vary based on building hours and department needs during finals, summer session, and intersessions but will consist of 40 hours/week.

What We Can Offer

The salary for this position is $39,500.

If you have prior state-classified experience in the same class series as this position, your pay may be set at a higher amount per the state Step Pay Program implemented on July 1, 2024.

Shift differential is available, as follows:

  • Weekend shift differential is 20%.
  • Second shift differential of 7.5% (Shall be paid for all hours worked when half or more of the scheduled work hours fall between 4 p.m. and 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday).

What We Require

  • One year of experience in an occupational field related to the work assigned to the position.
  • Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.

What We Would Like You to Have

  • Experience working in an academic library setting.
  • Experience using integrated library software circulation modules (ILS).
  • Supervisory experience.
