Job Description

The Workforce Training Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing workforce training programs, courses, and initiatives.  This includes serving as an instructor, program/curriculum developer and professional development trainer.

Workforce program planning, development, management, and instruction:

  • Coordinate and manage the RITUG initiative.
  • Assist the Development Office in maintaining relationships with local businesses, industry representatives, employment partners and training agencies.  
  • Assist with both teen and adult technology-based workforce programs.
  • Coach and mentor teen and adult teaching assistants and Interns in workforce development program/course delivery. 
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of new and existing training courses and programs and recommending, modifying and updating those training programs as necessary.
  • Develop and conduct various certification programs, including digital badging.
  • Conduct training needs assessments; analyzes organization/employee training needs to determine requirements for new program development.
  • Develop and grow current workforce education programs including the library’s signature computer, coding, and data analytics courses and create and implement new program offerings.
  • Teach using already established curriculum, recommend improvements to materials, and create new curriculum based on community and industry needs.

  • Educator with knowledge of the educational/cognitive, and social/emotional needs of learners; ability to translate those needs and interests into effective library programs and services.  Strong ability to inspire students and support their success.
  • Flexible professional with the ability to adapt to change and able to handle multiple competing projects, priorities and tasks.  The duties of this position may change over time based on varying funding sources, community needs and other factors.  
  • Lifelong learner with a demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and supporting an institutional culture of learning.
  • Forward-thinker with a record of developing imaginative solutions to complex problems and creating support for solutions.  Knowledge of current trends in technology, workforce development and education including digital badging and the concept of connected learning. Comfort with agile program development -- be willing to take risks and pilot projects, evaluate success and failures, and revise.
  • Consummate team-player who will help identify, nurture, and achieve shared goals with PPL staff, partners, and patrons/students including proven success in working with community and employer partners, specifically in technology, workforce development, education and diverse community outreach efforts.
  • Someone with Knowledge of and experience applying adult learning theories, individual culture and learning styles, needs analysis, learning objectives, application exercises/interactivity, learning assessment and course evaluation.

Experience, education, and minimum requirements

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communications, including the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy and comfort working in a multicultural environment.  Strong public speaking skills.
  • Commitment to working with children, teens and adults of diverse economic, linguistic, and/or cultural backgrounds.
  • Ability to seek out and build positive relationships with community partners, staff, and administration in a collaborative, productive, and supportive manner.
  • Proficiency in basic to advanced and emerging technology skills.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment.
  • Previous experience teaching workforce development courses.
  • BS/BA in Education, Business Management, or related field required, Master’s degree preferred.

Additional requirements:

  • Physical requirements – Ability to occasionally lift/move up to 25 lbs.
  • Knowledge of Spanish or other second language is helpful, but not required.
  • Must be available to occasionally work during weeknights and/or weekends.
  • Driving/Travel requirements – 80+% - local.  Position is based at Providence Public Library but must have ability to work independently off-site; locations may include libraries, schools, work sites, community and government organizations, etc.

This position is:

Non-exempt and is not part of the Union 

Hours:  35 hours per week, flexible schedule is needed

Hourly Range: $24 - $27
