Job Description
Role:
Shadows professional and paraprofessional public services staff as they answer patron requests for information and assistance and coordinates and conducts community programming/outreach/advocacy events.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
25% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Shadows library staff as they help patrons and provides patron assistance under the guidance of the Librarian in the use of library materials and technology by guiding them in searching the catalog and stacks, accessing databases, and navigating the Internet in order to locate resources in the collection and on the World Wide Web.
25% - INFORMATION NAVIGATION – Shadows library staff and provides patron assistance under the guidance of the Librarian with in-depth reference services and locating requested materials and information sources in order to satisfy patron requests for library materials and information.
30% - PROGRAMMING & OUTREACH – Shadows library staff and provides programming under the guidance of the Librarians to identify informative and entertaining programs and outreach events; plan with outside agencies in partnerships that promote use of library services; deliver programs to audiences within the library, at organizations within the branch’s service area, and via the website to virtual patrons by identifying and accessing audiences, and assisting the Public Information Office with recruiting in order to promote use of library resources and represent the library district to the community.
20% - MATERIALS COLLECTION – Shadows library staff and participates in collection maintenance under the guidance of the Librarian to recommend additions to the collection, weed and discard items in collection by assessing the condition and suitability of items, notifying the Collection Librarian of the discarded item in order to keep collection appealing, current and useful.
