Library Director, Langworthy Public Library, Hope Valley, RI
The Langworthy Public Library Board of Trustees is seeking a self-directed, highly organized, energetic, patron-centered and forward-thinking individual to serve as our Director of library services. The Director works with a team of dedicated staff and volunteers to deliver and promote high quality library services to the community of Hope Valley, a village within the town of Hopkinton, RI. The Langworthy Public Library is a private, non-profit organization located in a beautiful historic building overlooking a pond and is governed by an extremely supportive and hard-working seven member Board of Trustees. This position is ideal for a library professional who has the experience, desire, and vision to meet the evolving needs of our rural community. This is a 30 hour per week position at the rate of $24.00 an hour. Benefits consist of vacation/holiday pay only.
Qualifications:
- MLS/MLIS in library and information science
- Three to five years of professional library experience
- Supervisory experience highly desired
- Demonstrated proficiency with all aspects of library operations
- Ability to articulate a progressive vision of contemporary library services
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
The successful candidate will be a technologically savvy individual who possesses the leadership skills necessary to support and train staff, and work collaboratively with members of the community, library trustees, and local officials to deliver exemplary library services. This candidate will ideally have experience working in or managing all aspects of library services, and should possess the demonstrated ability required to develop a budget, coordinate an annual appeal, secure and manage grants, and oversee building and grounds operations.

Duties Include:
· Supporting and leading library staff and volunteers in maintaining a welcoming library environment and providing exemplary customer service through the delivery of reference, research, interlibrary loan, technology and circulation services
· Planning and promoting programs and services for ages birth through adult
· Managing all public relations activity via the newsletter, social media accounts, press releases to local media outlets, etc.
· Partnering with schools and local community organizations to deliver outreach services and other relevant programs and services
· Managing collection development and maintenance for ages birth through adult
· Managing the cataloguing and processing of all library materials
· Writing and overseeing the implementation of grants
· Serving as a liaison to library’s Board of Trustees, local municipality, statewide Office of Library and Information Services, and Ocean State Libraries Consortium
· Developing, interpreting, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures
· Coordinating the library’s annual fundraising appeal and supporting ongoing library board fundraising efforts
· Overseeing the maintenance of all aspects of the library property
· Developing and managing the annual library budget
· Participating in ongoing professional development
