The Town of Dover, MA (6,300 population) is seeking a dynamic and visionary Director for its nationally recognized library. The Director manages and oversees the daily operation of the library services, team and its facilities. The Director works in close cooperation with the Trustees, serving as an advisor and as an active participant in policy and budget development, goal setting, planning, and oversight of all services offered to the patrons of the library. The Library Director reports to the Board of Library Trustees and carries out job duties in accordance with established laws, regulations and policies in collaboration with the Town Administrator.
Requires a Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited graduate school and a Certificate of Professional Librarianship issued by the MBLC. A minimum of three to five years of progressive library management/administrative experience, evidenced by superlative recommendations. This position is 40 hours per week, Grade 14, with a salary range of $87,000-111,000, depending on experience and qualifications.

The current library was built in 1968 and has recently undergone top-to-bottom updates and renovations. It is located in the center of town and has two floors, covering 12,000 ft. The Library is governed by an elected six-member Board of Library Trustees. It has been awarded "Star Library" by Library Journal the past five years.

Our collection includes materials in many formats and serves the needs of children, young adults, and adults. We take an innovative approach in selecting and organizing our materials to maximize offerings within our footprint. Our library also makes available for checkout many unique items such as tools, technology, household items, games and toys. We are also a member of the Minutemen Library Network, a consortium of 43 libraries which enhances our access to materials beyond our library walls.
Data from the MA Board of Library Commissioners shows that Dover Town Library ranks in the highest category in the state for circulation per capita.
Dover is located in about 15 miles southwest of Boston. While considered a "suburb", Dover maintains a distinct rural character with nearly one-third of the town's 15 square miles designated as conservation land. The population of Dover is 6,300 residents with ninety percent of households identifying themselves as "families." The racial makeup of the town is more reflective of the state's demographics than that of surrounding, larger suburban towns. Sixteen percent of residents are foreign-born.
Dover's public schools are actively supported by the community and regularly rank at the top for schools in MA and the nation.
There are many active community-led organizations in Dover, including the Friends of the Dover Library, Dover Mothers' Association, Friends of the Council on Aging, the Dover Land Conservation Trust, The Dover Cultural Council, The Dover Historical Society, and the Dover Foundation that sponsor events and support lifelong learning.
Dover is governed by a Board of Selectmen and through its annual Town Meeting held in May.
