Job Description
The Metadata Librarian is responsible for managing catalog metadata, including production and quality assurance; analyzing and executing bibliographic record loads into the catalog; overseeing authority control processing; monitoring and managing outsourced contract cataloging; and supervising the Metadata Services Assistant. The Metadata Librarian also collaborates on digital projects by creating, implementing, and maintaining digital metadata policies and procedures.
The Metadata Librarian reports to the Associate Director & Head of Resource Access and Discovery. The position is a faculty position within the law school, at the instructor or senior instructor level.

What we Require:
- Master’s degree or equivalent in library/information science from an ALA-accredited school.
- Three years cataloging in an academic or law library environment.
- Experience using cataloging tools, such as OCLC Connexion, OCLC Record Manager, and MarcEdit.
The Community
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate metadata management by developing, implementing and evaluating metadata strategies, policies and procedures and supporting bibliographic control for all resource types.
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the work of one library technician who performs copy cataloging and end processing.
- Perform batch loading of electronic resource bibliographic records from third party vendors.
- Perform original and complex cataloging of materials as necessary.
- Develop and maintain digital metadata procedures and policies in coordination with the digital services unit.
- Ensure database integrity through authority control.
- Assist in the migration to a CU system-wide implementation to Folio to include participation on committees, the development and maintenance of procedures, and training staff in the implementation of these procedures.
- Maintain current knowledge of the trends and issues in legal education, with a focus on emerging technologies related to metadata, physical and electronic information resource management, and discovery.
- Serve on relevant library, law school, and campus-wide committees. Liaise with the cataloging unit at the main campus library.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you will need:
- Experience in metadata creation, cataloging, and electronic resource management;
- Knowledge of current issues and trends in physical and electronic resource management, metadata management, and discovery.
- Knowledge of current cataloging rules, standards, and controlled vocabularies, including RDA, LC Classification, and LCSH.
- Working knowledge of and experience with MARC21.
- Experience with metadata creation for digital collections.
- Initiative and ability to work both independently and in a collaborative, collegial environment.
- Ability to prioritize projects to meet the needs of the library staff and patrons.
- Flexibility, resilience, and the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
