The Town of South Kingstown has an exciting Librarian position available within the South Kingstown Public Library. The Library Division is accepting applications for the position of Youth Services Librarian. This full time position will work Monday 10am to 6pm, Tuesday 1pm to 8pm, and Wednesday through Friday 9am to 5pm with rotating Saturdays.
This professional position is responsible for providing reference and reader’s advisory assistance to children, young adults, adults and parents; collection development; planning, publicizing and conducting weekly story times for the two (2) year old age group and three (3) to five (5) year old age group as well as a variety of other programs for children and young adults through the year. The position will work in collaboration with other Youth Services Librarians to present a yearly Summer Reading Program as well as provide assistance at the general reference desk. The Youth Services Librarian will be in charge of gathering and reporting statistics regarding library’s services to the Library Director; supervising, training and scheduling volunteers; and will read professional literature to be cognizant of new developments and trends in children’s and young adult literature. The position will act as a community liaison to public high school organizations serving teens.
To qualify you must have a Master’s Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited graduate program. Two or more years of work with children and young adults preferred. This position requires a valid state driver’s license or ability to obtain prior to employment. Must also be dependable, detail oriented, and have a pleasant, helpful manner. The position pays $26.94 per hour and after successful completion of a six month probationary period will increase to $27.67 per hour.
