Job Description
The Faculty Director of the Gemmill Engineering Library is a tenure-track faculty position reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services of the University of Colorado Libraries. The position supervises one fulltime faculty member, two FTE staff members, and a number of student assistants. The Engineering Library is one of five branch libraries on the campus. Its collections number approximately 160,000 volumes. The Engineering Library also has extensive electronic collections that include journals, e-books from a variety of publishers, and online abstract and indexing tools. It serves the University community by providing specialized collections, programs, and services that meet the information needs of researchers in engineering and applied sciences and by developing and promoting instructional programs in support of the College of Engineering and Applied Science.
Duties include supervision and management of personnel, staff training, and policy and priority setting for the department within the framework of the University Libraries. The faculty director will be responsible for collection development, including selection of materials in all formats, weeding and offsite decisions, and liaison work with the teaching and research staff of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Library instruction, reference, and outreach services are also included in the duties. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

APPOINTMENT AND SALARY
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month) tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment may be at the assistant professor or associate professor level. Starting salary range will be $65,000-$70,000. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health plans, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.
REQUIREMENTS:
Three years of professional experience in an academic library with at least two years of experience in a public service department.
Demonstrated experience in management and supervision.
Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and a strong commitment to public service.
Potential for research and scholarly achievement.
Broad knowledge and experience with current information technologies, including online journals and databases.
Demonstrated experience using technology to deliver reference and instructional services.
Demonstrated experience in collection development for science or engineering disciplines.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
An academic degree, background, or relevant experience in science or engineering.
Demonstrated experience managing a branch or special library.
Experience with Web 2.0 technology.
Experience with library instruction and provision of reference services for scientific or technical disciplines.
