Acquisitions Catalog Librarian
Key Purpose/Summary:
The Acquisitions/Catalog Librarian is responsible for the ordering, receiving, cataloging, and classification of library materials in the Acquisitions & Cataloging Department.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Download and send vendor records to OSL
- Checking shipments for accuracy
- Categorizing and classifying all library materials using the Dewey Classification system (where applicable)
- Creating, editing, and managing item records in ILS
- Ordering from Edifact vendor and publishers
- Ordering from non-Edifact vendors and publishers
- Perform copy cataloging and original cataloging (as necessary)
- Call for Cataloging (OSL) for MARC records
- Search for MARC records in Worldcat
- Search for MARC records in BTCAT
- Importing MARC records using z39.50
- Organize incoming materials and backlogs of materials by highest priority
- Maintains quality control of records to meet the current standards reflected in the catalog
- Other duties as assigned.

- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Strong attention to details and strong organizational skills.
- Comfortable working with various technology (i.e. Microsoft programs, Google Docs/Drive).
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Interact professionally with other employees, patrons, and suppliers.
- Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
- Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
Education & Experience Required:
- MLS from an ALA accredited program required.
- Experience with Sierra preferred.
- Skilled at planning and organizing.
- Flexibility to adapt to local acquisitions/cataloging practices.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of standards such as RDA, AACR2, Library of Congress Rule Interpretations, Library of Congress subject headings.
- Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships, particularly with librarians responsible for materials selection.
- Comfortable with, or willing to learn, a range of software, including Google G Suite, Microsoft Office and project management software.
Additional Requirements:
- Driving/Travel requirements – 0-10%
- Position Location – Providence, RI
- Physical requirements – ability to occasionally lift/move up to 50lbs.

Exempt and is part of the Union
Hours: 35 hours per week.
Hourly Range: $22 - $25
