Job Description
Position will also temporarily oversee the Decker Branch Library. Background Info: The key role of this branch model will be to provide materials and programming for the family who visits the library together. A strong emphasis will be placed on helping parents connect the resources of the library with the educational and recreational needs of their children and the family as a whole. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates lifelong library customers by implementing and managing library services designed primarily for families and children. Promotes and nurtures reading. Provides homework and technology assistance to students. Develops programs and activities that invite participation by parents and children together. Works with a team of Senior Librarians and a Cluster Manager to develop, design, and implement system-wide Family Library services. Oversees daily operations of a branch location including personnel, scheduling and customer service issues. Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff, and administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of public library information management. Strong leadership skills and ability to create and maintain positive staff relationships. Skill in providing programming and library service to children and families. Skill in providing children’s reference and reader’s advisory and in introducing children to literature, research materials and technology. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively solve problems and negotiate stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to select, train, motivate and supervise professional and clerical staff.
Additional Info & Requirements
Two years of post-MLS professional-level work in a library. Proven initiative in prior positions a must. A background check must be passed after the offer to hire has been made.
