UO Libraries seeks a collaborative, communicative, and adaptable individual to coordinate and support Knight Library’s Aerial Photography Research Service (APRS). This position will be the primary coordinator for the APRS and manage a fee-based service that annually processes hundreds of requests for access to the UO’s aerial photography collection (an estimated million unique images of Oregon dating from 1929 to the 2000s). This one-of-a-kind collection brings together imagery of Oregon from federal, state, and private flights. Often, UO is the only known holder of these prints and films, which are used extensively to document historic conditions, land use, and environmental change. As coordinator, this position will also play a key role in identifying, planning, and carrying out digitization projects and GIS indexing projects to make this physical collection digitally accessible.
This position will also support the Cartographic, Spatial Data, and Government Documents Librarian in government documents, maps, and aerial photography collection management and maintenance, as well as other collections- and shelving-related projects as needed. They will carry out the hiring, training, scheduling, and supervising of student assistants, train Access Services employees on basic aspects of APRS and Government Documents, and communicate with patrons, colleagues, and business partners via e-mail, telephone, and in person. The person in this position will work collaboratively with other Libraries branches, units, and departments, including the Access Services and Research & Instructional Services departments. This position also oversees daily collection maintenance, management, and digitization projects for government documents, maps, and aerial photography and performs various tasks in support of the Data Services Department within the Research, Instruction, and Access Services Division of UO Libraries.
