Job Description

Library Director – Pickaway County Library (OH)

The Pickaway County Library (OH) Board of Trustees seeks a Library Director who is a creative and innovative thinker with strong communication skills. The ideal candidate will be a collaborative team leader, comfortable addressing conflict when it arises, and successful in promoting library services as the face of the library with infectious energy and enthusiasm for the organization.  

Serving approximately 59,000 residents of Pickaway County from two locations and a bookmobile, the Library Director will utilize a staff of 28 FTE and a $2.2 million budget provided through the Ohio Public Library Fund and bolstered by a healthy general fund to provide information and services that educate, enrich, and engage its community. The seven-member board is appointed by the Pickaway County Commissioners and Court of Common Pleas. Library highlights include beautiful well-maintained facilities, participation in the Dolly Parton Imagination Library, a wide variety of programming, established partnerships with local organizations, and an ongoing commitment to excellent customer service. The library’s current key initiatives are: assessing the needs of patrons outside the city of Circleville, maintaining fair compensation and benefits for employees, and ensuring the library remains a safe space for all residents. 

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the governing Board of Trustees, the Library Director functions as the executive of the library; drafts suggested policies for the Board of Trustees, and successfully implements supporting procedures needed for the effective operation of the organization; prepares and presents monthly reports; represents the library at meetings and events; works with the fiscal officer to prepare an annual appropriation proposal and to implement controls related to library purchasing; seeks out partnerships with community organizations as appropriate; and guides the organization’s collection development practices to ensure material selection meets community needs and wants.

Qualifications: A master’s degree in Library and Information Science and at least three years of professional library experience are required. Experience with supervising employees, working with a Board of Trustees, managing facilities, and troubleshooting skills preferred.
