
Library technicians offer expert customer service to library patrons of all ages. A majority of the tasks for this position are performed at the circulation desk working with the public. The position can be physically challenging as it may require lifting, walking and standing for extended periods of time. The work performed is subject to review through observation, reports and the results achieved.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Utilize computers to perform various duties including checking items in and out; register new borrowers; issue library cards and update borrowers' records.
- Assist with clerical and technology related tasks such as answering phones, printing, copying, faxing, scanning documents and assisting with basic computer help as needed.
- Assist in interpreting and applying library rules, policies and procedures.
- Accurately sort and file materials alphabetically, numerically and by other predetermined categories.
- Answer routine public inquiries in person and via telephone and directs public to appropriate locations and/or library personnel.
- Respond to requests for information and resolves patron concerns and refer more difficult problems to responsible personnel.
- Perform opening/closing circulation tasks including turning on/off computers and shelf read the library collection to ensure materials are in correct location and order.
· Carry, lift, move and arrange library furniture as needed.
· Perform related office and clerical work (filing, answering phones, maintaining office equipment and managing related supplies).
· Counting and handling currency along with other housekeeping duties.
Part-time position to include days, nights and weekend shifts (up to 19 hours). Reports to Circulation Supervisor and is compensated hourly.
EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- A high school diploma or the equivalent. Previous library experience is not required, however it is a plus for the applicant.
- Proficient in the operation of personal computer hardware equipment and software packages.
- The applicant must have the ability to communicate effectively, to work cooperatively with others using a team approach and adapt to changes.
