Job Description

Position Overview

McQuade Library at Merrimack College seeks an energetic and experienced librarian to fill the position of Instruction/Liaison Librarian. This librarian will provide research services to library users, conduct information literacy workshops, create instructional materials, and participate in collection development and serve as a faculty liaison. Reporting to the Head Librarian, this full-time position will focus on the library’s efforts to engage the Merrimack community with research skills and tools of scholarship. Evening shifts are required.

Responsibilities include:

  • A record of successful interaction with faculty, students, staff, and administrators in an institution of higher education.
  • Ability to adapt to changes in work environment and technology.
  • Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, presentation, and collaboration skills and strong customer service orientation.
  • Strong interpersonal skills as a team member of the Instruction/Liaison team in outreach, relationship building, and collaboration with faculty.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and ability to apply best practices in this area to librarianship and all aspects of the position.
  • Knowledge of information literacy concepts, competencies, and best practices. Familiarity with information resources in a variety of formats.
  • Experience with integrated library systems, online catalogs, internet searching, electronic databases, and Libguides.
  • At least 2 years library experience providing reference services and teaching library workshops in an academic setting.
  • Master’s degree in Library or Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited institution.
  • Support the initiatives of the Head Librarian.

Qualifications:

  • Serves as contact and resource person for student assistants in the absence of Access Services staff.
  • Acts as Library representative on relevant faculty and campus committees.
  • Collaborates with professional library staff on policy documents.
  • Create Course Research Guides, Subject Guides, instructional videos, and other materials for web publication in assigned areas.
  • Assist with the development, management, evaluation, and promotion of collections in assigned subject areas.
  • Provide in-depth and specialized research consultations and reference assistance to library users.
  • Serve as primary liaison to subject areas faculty and users; identifies, meets, and facilitates ongoing communication about resource needs and service expectations.
  • Develop, deliver, and evaluate general and course-integrated information literacy/library instruction programs.
