Library Director Opening – Dover Free Library

The Board of Trustees of the Dover Free Library has an immediate opening for a dynamic and enthusiastic Director to work with and lead an outstanding staff and group of volunteers. We are seeking a Director committed to the continued success of this beloved local institution. The Dover Free Library features nearly 15,000 volumes, serving a year-round population of 1,800, expanding to 10,000 during the year, including resort guests and second-home owners. The library has well-attended children and adult programs throughout the year. The Dover Free Library is located adjacent to Dover Common and Town Hall, between the villages of East and West Dover, just minutes from Mount Snow resort, and serves the vibrant and growing community of Dover and the greater Deerfield Valley. This is a full-time position offering an attractive benefits package complementing a salary in the $50K to $60K range, commensurate with experience. Qualifications
- Abilities: Can supervise staff and volunteers in an effective and supportive manner; establishes and maintains working relationships with organizations, departments, and officials. Displays leadership, independent judgment, initiative, and decision-making. Plans, implements, and evaluates effective library services, strategies, facilities, and staff. Communicates effectively with the Board and staff. Current with the pace of technology and available resources that may be offered to the public.
- Experience: Possesses management experience, including personnel supervision, budget management and policy development; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and ethics of professional library work – or willingness to work toward Vermont’s Certificate of Public Librarianship; knowledge of facilities management and operations including administration, finance and personnel. Working knowledge of computerization and appropriate library applications and technology.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
