The Jesse M. Smith Memorial Library is seeking a creative and energetic Children’s Librarian. This position reports to the Head Children’s Librarian. This librarian provides collection development, programming and reference assistance services in a busy children’s department. Responsibilities include answering patron reference questions, providing reader’s advisory and digital literacy services to the public, and assisting in the development of children’s programming.
This is a full time position (35 hours per week) with some nights and weekends required.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Masters of Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
Candidates close to obtaining a degree may be considered.
• Prior library experience preferably in children’s services.
• Ability to work independently.
• Exemplary customer service skills. Comfortable working with the public in busy situations.
• Organization skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent computer skills required. Must be familiar with trends in technology for children.
