The Position:

Flex your creativity, uplift diverse stories, and join a team of valued and passionate colleagues dedicated to serving their community. In addition to providing traditional library, reference, and reader's advisory services, as an Adult Services Librarian, you will be responsible for creating, implementing, and planning programs, special events, and outreach opportunities for adults in our community. In this role, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a diverse range of community partners and organizations. You will represent the library at outreach events, as well as coordinate and serve adults with outreach services.

What You’ll Do in This Role: 

  • Offer friendly, proactive assistance, and answer research-related questions for library visitors.
  • Help visitors use library equipment and electronic resources, including the online catalog, databases, downloadable content, computers, printers, scanners, self-service checkout stations, copiers, and more.
  • Design, implement, and manage library programs, program series, special events, outreach services, and outreach events.
  • Develop and maintain collections.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with community partners, uplifting underserved populations.
  • Assist in the development and review of DPL policies and procedures and their interpretation.
  • Prepare statistical reports.
  • Organize and improve the efficiency of processes within your area of responsibility.
  • Perform circulation duties, including issuing library cards, checking materials in and out, inspecting returns for damage, managing material status, processing holds, generating notices, and accepting payments.
  • Communicate effectively with team members, both verbally and in writing.
  • Help provide a safe environment for everyone in the library.
  • Sort and shelve library materials as needed, maintaining the upkeep and cleanliness of the library and its collections.
  • Attend professional meetings and keep up with the latest library science trends.
  • Create promotional materials, activities, and library displays.
  • Provide mentorship, support, and training to paraprofessional staff.

You Have: 

  • A Master’s Degree, preferably in Library Science.
  • An awareness of the purposes and functions of the public library and the ability to learn routine library procedures.
  • Knowledge of current methods and techniques for selecting library materials.
  • Commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Ability to solve problems effectively using logic, judgment, and data.
  • Skill in collaborating with others to accomplish goals.
