
The Tigard Public Library is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable supervisor to lead our incredible Youth Services team. Our ideal candidate is rich with emotional intelligence, attentive to detail, works with a spirit of inclusive collaboration, and is dedicated to supporting kids, teens, and families through excellent library services.
Our Youth Services Supervisor provides supervision and support to a five-person team and is in a leadership position with the opportunity to have vision and think strategically about community needs while also providing direct services to families in Tigard.
Examples of Duties:
- Provides structure for the Youth Services team with scheduling, oversight, and direct supervision.
- Engages kids, teens, and families in library services through programming, reference, outreach, and collection development.
- Participates in development of library services through grant writing, innovation projects, and committee work.
- Serves as a member of the Person in Charge team.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledgeable in the principles and practices of professional librarianship
- Knowledgeable in the principles and best practices for youth services and early literacy
- Ability to effectively navigate employee supervision, including training, evaluation, goal-setting, and course correction
- Ability to provide excellent customer service, including the ability to engage in difficult conversations
- Adept at navigating technology
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to make sound, independent decisions
- Ability to interpret and apply policy
- Ability to establish, maintain, and foster positive, harmonious relationships in the workplace

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position may be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Master's degree in Library Science from an accredited college or university, AND
Two (2) years of library experience, including
Two (2) years of lead or supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to speak, read, and write in Spanish and English fluently.
