Job Description

Statement of Duties: This position works under the general direction and supervision of the Library Director, manages the public services and technology services of the City’s library system; is responsible for all operations in the Director’s absence; and performs administrative duties necessary to plan, direct, implement and evaluate library services. 

  • Manages the daily operations of the City’s library system. 
  • Works with the Director to establish goals and objectives for the Library, and develop and implement policies and procedures to accomplish them. 
  • Provides general supervision to Library department heads and branch supervisors. 
  • Guides technology development and implementation for the Library. 
  • Participates in staff selection and personnel administration and the application of personnel policies. 
  • Participates in budget planning and management. 
  • Makes recommendations for service improvements and new services to meet community needs. 
  • Coordinates staff development and training programs for the Library. 
  • Designs statistical reports and compiles data for annual reports. 
  • Represents the Director at meetings and conferences. 
  • Attends professional meetings and participates in professional associations and community organizations on library’s behalf. 
  • Assists the Administrative Assistant with bookkeeping and payroll tasks to coordinate coverage of those duties as necessary. 
  • Collaborates with the Community Services Librarian on major publicity, promotional and public relations activities. 
  • May provide reference and reader’s advisory services in the Adult and Children’s Departments. 
  • Attends Board of Trustee meetings, prepares programming reports, and makes presentations.
