Lawrence Public Library is looking for a creative and energetic Marketing & Communications Specialist to help tell Lawrence Public Library’s story, champion our offerings, and advance the library’s mission to inspire our community to imagine more for their lives through learning, connecting, creating, and growing. The Marketing & Communications Specialist works in the Department of Development and Community Partnerships and reports to the Marketing & Communications Supervisor.

As the Marketing & Communications Specialist, we’ll need you to:
- Act as the library's internal journalist, generating story ideas from team meetings, department reports, and library events, and crafting diverse written content to inform staff, patrons, stakeholders, and the public about library news, services, resources, and events
- Assist in developing and preparing strategic communications in a variety of formats appropriate to target audiences including, but not limited to, print materials, direct email campaigns and bi-monthly eNewsletters, social media, surveys, webpage news content, annual community impact report, and advertising and web copy
- Serve as lead copywriter, proofreader, and editor for library written communications including, but not limited to event descriptions, website copy, print publications, and press releases
- Be the point person for the library’s social media marketing efforts; lead content creation; keep up on rapidly changing best practices, tools, analytics, and requirements for each platform
- Help develop event and product marketing for signature events, library collections, services, and resources to increase use and grow new users
- Maintain universal standards for communications policies, guidelines, procedures, style guides, and templates for event descriptions, webpage copy, and eNewsletters to ensure consistency clarity across channels
- Function as media contact; orchestrate and send press releases; field media inquiries
- Maintain the library’s promotional merchandise inventory and display supplies
Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in web content production, copywriting, editing, and communicating effectively with diverse populations
- Working knowledge of Google Workspace (Gmail, Docs, Sheets, Drive, etc.)
- Excellent communication (oral and written) and presentation skills
- Proficient in or ability to learn Associated Press (AP) Style writing
- Experience planning and creating engaging social media content and campaigns
Preferred qualifications
- Hands-on experience in digital marketing and SEO copywriting
- Experience working in public library communications and marketing capacity
- Experience working in events promotion
- Experience using Adobe InDesign to create print materials from a template
- Experience using Google Analytics and data analysis tools
- Working knowledge of photo and video editing software
- Experience creating strong, but simple graphics for social media
- Event photography experience
- Experience leading small teams and/or focus groups
