Job Description

Note: Per policy and minimum qualifications, only current graduate students will be considered.

Applicants must be currently enrolled as a graduate student with at least eight months left in their program. This position will engage in information literacy instruction and research help services for the students, faculty, and staff of the Auraria Campus, which serves the University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University Denver, and the Community College of Denver. Our Teaching and Learning Student Assistants form the core of our public service model, and this is very much a hands-on position. Successful applicants can expect experiences providing in-person and online research help and library instruction in a variety of modalities, as well as other opportunities related to the day-to-day operations of a large academic library, such as projects related to campus outreach and open educational resources (OER). This is an in-person position with options for some hybrid work after an initial training period.

Examples of Work Performed

  • Provide in-person support at a shared service point, including research help and materials check-out.
  • Staff an online chat research help service.
  • Conduct library instruction in a range of disciplines.
  • Develop exercises and assessments that will help students advance their research abilities.
  • Engage in campus outreach events to promote library resources, spaces, and services.
  • Receive professional support and guidance from Auraria Library faculty and staff to ensure success in this position.
  • Create and edit online learning materials that respond to community needs, including video tutorials, learning modules, and other digital learning objects.

The Community

Located in downtown Denver, Colorado, the Auraria Campus is home to three institutions of higher education – University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver. Both MSU Denver and CCD are Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI). CU Denver is an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander Serving institution (AANAPISI) and is working toward its HSI status.  The Auraria Library serves the campus’ over 35,000 students, the majority of whom are from the first-generation in their family to enroll in higher education. The majority of our students are Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color, and we also serve large populations of veterans, transfer students, adult learners, and other populations that have been historically underserved. Auraria Library is committed to diversity within its community and welcomes applications from candidates across all dimensions and identities. The library seeks candidates who embrace a multicultural, diverse, and inclusive workplace, and who strive to incorporate those values in their work and interactions. While the University of Colorado Denver is required to perform a background check during the hiring process, as part of the library’s ongoing commitment to increasing equity this information will not exclude you from being considered for this position and we encourage everyone, regardless of their status, to apply. Please see our library values and diversity initiatives.
