The Community

The Truro Public Library boasts a rich history dating back to the 1800s. Originally housed in private homes, it has evolved into a central hub for the community. Located at 7 Standish Way, the library offers a warm and inviting space for people of all ages. With over 33,000 physical items and access to over 100,00 electronic resources, there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re seeking a quiet reading nook, a computer for research, or a vibrant space for an event, the library caters to diverse needs. The library goes beyond traditional book lending. It fosters a love of learning through STEAM programs, a thriving Seed Library (first on Cape Cod), a children’s mud kitchen, newly created food forest path, and a dedicated children’s gardening initiative. It’s a place to connect with neighbors, attend cultural events, or simply find a peaceful refuge. The library understands the importance of community engagement. It collaborates with organizations like SustainableCAPE and offers a “Library of Things” program, loaning out non-traditional items like gardening tools and telescopes. This commitment to community building strengthens the spirit of Truro. A team of passionate staff, some with master’s degrees in library science, ensures the smooth operation of the library. They are supported by a community elected Board of Trustees and a dedicated group of volunteers. The Truro Public Library is a vital resource for the town. With its commitment to cultural enrichment, lifelong learning, and community engagement, it ensures a vibrant future for generations to come.
