The Librarian of Teen Services plans, organizes, directs, and manages all District services for teens conforming to the policies established by the Trustees and Director. Performs managerial duties related to services offered, outreach programs and special activities. Continually seeks ways to promote increased use of teen materials. Works with school librarians and community groups to develop and expand teen services. May assume responsibility for all staff and the building in the absence of the Library Branch Manager.

Requirements Required:
Completion of a Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution
One year of professional library experience working in Teen Services

Preferred:
- Advanced knowledge of the needs and abilities of teens and the library materials and services appropriate to young people
- Ability to apply professional library principles, methods, and administrative practices to collection development, planning, and budget management
- Ability to establish priorities, develop long range plans, including staffing needs, for the implementation of new services and programs
- Ability to administer the activities of library service to youths
- Ability to perform and supervise reader's advisory, bibliographic and other professional library services offered by staff and volunteers.
- Artistic skills used in creating posters, displays and crafts highly desirable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Works collaboratively with personnel working in teen services.
- Selects books, magazines, audiovisual materials, software, toys and games, online services for teens. Determines location of materials in regards to branches; evaluates collection annually for balance and comprehensiveness.
- Provides assistance and instruction in use of PAC terminals in choosing books and other materials for borrowing and locating reference information.
- Interacts with other professionals and cooperates with school and cultural organizations serving teens.
- Cooperates with teachers in research assignments and conducts orientation visits for school classes
- Oversees and coordinates with Public Relations Librarian the promotion of District-wide programs, and the preparation of book lists, reading lists, bibliographies, flyers and other public relations materials for teens
- Oversees the organization and presentation of displays for teens
- Seeks opportunities to speak and write about the library and to promote the use of resources and the attendance at programs in the public forum as directed
- Works with the District Public Relations Librarian to promote programs
- Develops and coordinates teen outreach programs to local middle and high schools. Visits the local schools at least twice each year
- Weeds the teen collection as needed
- Responsible for the general maintenance and appearance of the Teen's area and verifies that all equipment is working properly
- Prepares the following reports for Administrative personnel: monthly Teen Services report, annual proposed library materials budget, and annual collection development plan
- Monitors all line items in the Teen Services budget to ensure funds are being expended at an appropriate rate
- Keeps informed on trends in library services; participates in professional organizations; attends continuing education professional conferences
- Conducts library tours for teens, parents, and adults
Additional Duties and Responsibilities
- All Librarians perform general library work as needed, participating in service desk rotations, assisting patrons, shelving, and answering phone calls.
- Participate in staff meetings and training sessions.
- May supervise volunteers.
Our Library District is in the rural-resort mountains of Colorado. Three branches provide services to 44,000 people. The ski resort industry drives our local economy and most of the public land is managed by the US Forest Service as part of the White River National Forest. The library has a close relationship with the historical society to preserve artifacts and keep them accessible.
