The Arthur Lakes Library at Colorado School of Mines is hiring for a Manager of Circulation and User Services. This position has a deep understanding of best practices and emerging trends in circulation, resource sharing services and library customer relations and how they fit into the broader organizational mission. The person in this position develops standards and best practices, strategies, and workflows for the User Services section in accordance with library policies, professional standards, and university and state requirements.
This work includes an expert knowledge of relevant library systems applied to section functions. The position manages the section as a critical front-line support area, collaborating with other library units to deliver seamless user services and foster community relations and awareness of library programs with the campus and other communities. This position supervises, trains and evaluates library technicians; and hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates student employees. The position demonstrates commitment to the Library's values of positive user experience, discovery, connection, equity, and stewardship.

D. Professional Development and Service
- Interacts and collaborates with the library community on a university, state, and national level. Actively participates in library governance and within the university through campus committees and organizations. Represents the Library to its users throughout the Colorado School of Mines and external communities. Engages in progressive professional development (webinars, classes, and conferences, etc.) as appropriate, and participates in professional organizations.
Team lead—Acts as the team lead for the student employees on duty in rotation with the classified library technicians; assigns workflows and special projects to assist other sections; serves as a resource on circulation services for the student employees and provides point-of-need training. As team lead, directs student employee efforts according to continuously shifting demands in: Patron traffic patterns as well as unanticipated changes in traffic. Collection maintenance—Shelving, reshelving shelf space planning, shelf reading, and other collection maintenance needs. General building orderliness—Operation, condition, cleanliness, item pick-up, and placement of designated equipment and furnishings; troubleshooting and reporting problems to relevant personnel.
User services—Delivers circulation services in an exemplary customer service environment, works with users to identify needs, and troubleshoots service problems; acts as a model of customer service to student employees. Includes:
General circulation functions (check-in/check-out, returns, patron accounts, course reserves including e-reserves, room reservations and setup, signage, etc.).
Knowledge of library software platforms—Maintains an up-to-date working knowledge of workflows for section-related library software platforms (Alma, Springshare, Leganto, ILL software, etc.); and performs troubleshooting in coordination with Systems Discovery Librarian as needed.
Knowledge of the library—Updates and expands knowledge of library operations and resources by exploration, training, and communication with other sections; maintains an informed understanding of library users’ behaviors and developments that impact user/library interactions. Identifies and recommends resources and changes to improve the user experience.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree from an accredited program.
- At least three years library circulation experience.
- Advanced knowledge of and/or experience with library circulation software systems.
- At least one year experience with hiring, scheduling, training, payroll, workflows, processes, and policies.
- Demonstrated customer service experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced knowledge of and/or experience with Alma circulation software systems.
- Experience working in an academic setting with faculty, staff, students, and members of the public.
- Knowledge of current and emerging issues, trends, and best practices in the changing landscape of libraries, circulation, and customer service.
- Experience supervising student employees.
- Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning. Ability to approach issues in a flexible and creative way, embrace ambiguity, adapt to change, and work successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Commitment to working with diverse populations and values of inclusivity and accessibility.
- Demonstrated experience in project planning, workflow development, and writing documentation.
Annual Rate and Benefits
$60,000 - $65,000
