The Research and Instruction Librarian is a team-oriented librarian that participates in the development and delivery of reference, information, and instructional services. Responsibilities include reference and research assistance, creation of online instructional and informational resources, coordination and delivery of instruction in online and face-to-face classroom settings, collection development, and participation on library and university wide committees. This promotion-track, faculty position works closely with all library departments and collaborates with students, staff, and faculty across all campuses. Duties and responsibilities are understood in reference to the terms and conditions set forth in the Library Faculty Handbook. This is a 12-month faculty appointment at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Professor.
Major duties and responsibilities:
- Provide research help and assistance to library users utilizing print and electronic resources in Dayton Memorial Library and beyond via email, telephone, web conferencing, and online chat.
- Participate in the library instruction program across all campuses and online classrooms, including the development of faculty collaborations, instructional materials, and presentations in support of a diverse community of learners.
- Support the Research & Instruction department’s engagements and collaborations with the First Year Experience program and its students and faculty.
- Create, develop, and enhance access to library resources and services in a multi-modal learning environment that includes face-to-face, hybrid, and online interactions.
- Participates in professional activities, including research, publications, professional presentations, and service to the university to fulfill requirements for academic rank and promotion. Library faculty are encouraged, in consultation with their immediate supervisor, to pursue research and service opportunities in areas of personal and professional interest that they are most passionate about.
- Support the outreach efforts of the library faculty and staff, and occasionally staff and participate in university wide outreach events targeting new and prospective students.
- Participate in the development and execution of Research & Instruction Department policies and procedures.
- Serves as bibliographer and faculty liaison to teaching departments for collection development and instructional support within assigned subject areas.
- As a member of the library faculty, serves on library and university-wide committees. Participates in various functions of the university to support the values and mission of Regis University.
Required Experience
- Ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
- Prior knowledge of, or proven ability to learn, print and electronic reference sources in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, and health care.
- Demonstrated excellence in offering instruction to a diverse student body.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
- 0-3 years' experience in a professional library setting for the rank of Instructor.
- 3-6 years’ experience in an academic library setting for the rank of Assistant.
Preferred Experience
- 1-3 years of experience providing general research support and/or reference services in a higher education setting.
- Experience creating instructional content using eLearining authoring tools such as Camtasia, Captivate, Articulate, Adobe Creative Suite, etc.
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript and content management systems and best practices.
- A bachelor’s or advanced degree or subject matter expertise in the social sciences or life sciences.
- Bilingual in Spanish and English
