Job Description

The City and County of Broomfield is seeking an experienced and innovative Deputy Director to join our leadership team within the Library, Arts, History, and CSU Extension Department. This role is essential in overseeing day-to-day operations while playing a pivotal role in organizational development, leadership coaching, and staff training. As a strategic leader, the Deputy Director will help shape the department’s vision, enhance service delivery, and foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth.

The Deputy Director will work closely with the Department Director, internal teams, and external stakeholders to drive organizational improvement initiatives that align with Broomfield’s goals. The successful candidate will be passionate about mentoring staff, creating development programs, and ensuring the department remains at the forefront of innovation and service excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership Coaching & Staff Development: Mentor and coach department managers and staff to enhance leadership capabilities, foster professional growth, and create high-performing teams. Design and implement staff training programs that encourage continuous learning and align with organizational goals.

Organizational Development: Lead initiatives aimed at improving the department’s structure, workflows, and culture. Collaborate with the Director to implement strategies that drive organizational growth and operational efficiency.

Strategic Planning & Program Coordination: Collaborate with the Director and department leaders to develop and execute strategic plans that promote innovation and service delivery excellence across Library, Arts, History, and CSU Extension services.

Performance Management: Oversee the performance evaluation process for department managers, providing feedback, setting goals, and identifying opportunities for staff development and succession planning.

Team Building & Collaboration: Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative work environment. Encourage cross-departmental cooperation to integrate services and deliver holistic solutions to the community.

Resource Optimization & Budget Management: Assist in managing departmental budgets and resources, identifying opportunities for financial and operational improvements. Support staff in seeking and managing grants to further departmental goals.

Data-Driven Decision Making: Lead efforts to gather, analyze, and use data to improve program effectiveness and efficiency. Implement continuous improvement processes based on data insights.

Qualifications: 

Experience: Minimum of 5 years in senior-level leadership within a public library, arts, museum, or educational field, with a strong emphasis on organizational development. 3-5 years of supervisory experience is required.

Education: Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Library & Information Science, Arts Administration, Education, Organizational Development, or a related field.

Skills:

High emotional intelligence and adaptability to guide teams through change and uncertainty.

Excellent communication and public relations skills, with the ability to engage effectively with stakeholders.

Proficiency in analyzing data, managing budgets, and driving continuous improvement.

Strong leadership and team-building skills with a focus on collaboration and innovation.

Ability to design and implement effective training programs that align with strategic goals.

Proven experience in organizational development, staff coaching, and leadership development.

Working Conditions:

Environment: Moderate noise typical of office settings, with occasional exposure to outdoor program environments.

Physical Demands: Predominantly sedentary with occasional standing or movement; requires the ability to exert up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally.

Schedule: Primarily Monday through Friday, with occasional evening meetings and weekend availability for important programs or facility-related issues. Hybrid work options may be available.
