Library Assistant Substitutes work up to 19 hours weekly, covering shifts on short notice for sick leave and with advance notice for vacation, including evenings and weekends. What You'll Do:
- On-the-Go Assistance: Occasionally, take the library van to book drops or lockers, helping patrons access materials even beyond our doors!
- Get Organized: Assist with organizing and shelving. Help with gathering and processing holds.
- Tech Savvy? Yes, Please! Help patrons navigate databases, computers, and general tech questions.
- Dive Into Materials Handling: Check in materials manually or by using automated systems. Take safety precautions when handling materials and equipment.
- Be the Face of the Library: Greet patrons at public service desks, answer inquiries, and monitor patron behavior. Provide support for catalog searches, library accounts, and library policy questions. Provides reference, reader’s advisory, technology, research databases, and library account assistance to patrons at public service desks, by phone, and throughout the library for all ages.
Skills We’d Love You to Bring:
- Physical ability to handle carts and materials up to 30 pounds.
- Self-motivation and adaptability to keep things running smoothly.
- General knowledge of library resources and organization.
- Strong communication skills and a knack for great customer service.
Qualifications:
- Minimum: Associate’s degree or relevant experience, with library experience as a plus!
- Bonus Points For:
- Experience with diverse communities and cultural backgrounds
- Comfort driving fleet vehicles or vans.
- Experience in library customer service.

Special Requirements:
- Successful background check and motor vehicle record check required.
- Applicable department and safety training must be completed upon hire.
