Library Technician – Adult Services - part time, non-benfited

Provide reference assistance to customers in the adult, computer, and provide technical tasks in support of Library functions.
Principal Duties:
• Assist library patrons at public desks in assigned department; interviews patrons by telephone or electronic media (e.g. email, chat, text or instant messaging) or in person responding to service requests.
• Locate information in assigned area using electronic databases and resources, print library materials, the Internet, or other tools. • Recommend resources for purposes of education, information, or recreational reading.
• Accompany patrons to the appropriate resources and instruct / assist patrons in the use of library resources both printed and computer based.
• Assist patrons with their devices and technology including tablets, smart phones, laptops and personal computers for the purposes of accessing electronic library materials.
• Provide software/hardware instruction and support to users with a wide variety of computer skill levels.
• Oversee the work of lower-level staff and volunteers in area of assignment including assigning routine duties, providing instruction, and assisting in the Library’s training process.
• Provide general administrative and technical support related to various Library functions and customer services.
• Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Working Environment: Work is done in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Work requires standing, walking, bending and stooping, use of hands to make repetitive grasping motions, light lifting of up to 15 pounds, pushing and pulling of book carts, and sufficient vision to clearly read book labels. May require climbing at least two steps on a ladder or step stool and reaching above shoulder level. Work requires repetitive motion to enter data on keyboard. Schedule requires availability on weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Work frequently involves confidentiality, reasoning, problem solving, and attention to detail. Qualifications: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university and two or more years of clerical and/or technical experience in a public library or area related to specific assignment.
Special Qualifications: Performance at this level requires advanced customer service skills, knowledge of library operations, and sufficient knowledge to provide competent reference assistance.
