Role:
Coordinates outreach programming, networks with community agencies and organizations, provides library services, and acts as a staff resource.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
40% - OUTREACH PROGRAMMING – Works with Outreach Manager, Library Manager, and Community Relations & Marketing staff in identifying relevant programs and outreach events; works in partnerships with outside agencies to promote use of library services; uses project management and outcomes-based planning and evaluation tools to develop and access events that fulfill target audience needs and networks with community agencies and businesses. Delivers programs and trainings to audiences within the library district in person or via online tools. (Essential)
25% - COMMUNITY NETWORKING – Works with Outreach Manager, Library Manager, and Community Relations & Marketing staff to identify priorities; participates in community organizations by attending meetings; and plans library programming to include literacy related agencies, schools, business associations, and other community organizations with indirect or direct relationships with the library district in order to increase community awareness and demand for library services. 10% - DRIVES LARGE VEHICLES – Safely drives large vehicles (such as a bookmobile that is up to 34’ long) and delivery vans to remote locations throughout service areas and through congested city traffic in sometimes adverse weather conditions to locate assets at locations where patrons can access library services and materials. (Essential)
10% - PATRON ASSISTANCE – Assists patrons in locating the information needed through the use of library resources and Internet sites; provides technology instruction for a diverse population of technology users with a priority on accessing library services and resources; stays informed as a reader’s advisor; provides in-depth reference services and locates requested materials and information sources in order to satisfy patron requests for library materials and information; and assists patrons with circulation functions which include, but are not limited to, issuing and updating library cards, checking-out and renewing materials, placing holds, and addressing account problems. 5% - COLLECTION MAINTENANCE – Maintains and creates web content; recommends additions to the collection; notifies the Collection Librarian of discarded items in order to keep collection appealing, current, and useful. (Essential)
5% - STAFF RESOURCE – Collaborates with Library Manager to identify opportunities based on community conversations. Acts as a resource for staff by providing in-depth reference assistance, reference consultation, mentoring, and training of staff in providing reference and reader’s advisory services in order to provide dynamic services to patrons. Sharing information learned through community conversations. (Essential)
5% - OTHER DUTIES –Writes grants, creates displays, bibliographies, and blogs, recommends budgets, requests equipment and supply purchases; prepares statistical reports, may assist Library Manager with librarian duties; and assists Supervisor with projects in order to ensure the smooth operation of Outreach. (Non-Essential)
Minimum Requirements:
Education:
Master of Library and Information Science
Experience:
Two or more years of experience working in a library (preferred)
Skill in basic computer operation
Valid driver’s license and good driving record
Able to drive personal vehicle, large RV style bookmobile, or van to deliver programs and services.
Able to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently (Required)
