Since 1901, the Lawrence Library, in addition to providing traditional library services, has hosted art exhibitions and live music performances. For over a century, the Lawrence Library has served the Pepperell community, providing a space where individuals can engage with culture, the arts, and knowledge. The library opens windows to the world, inspiring exploration and growth, which enhances the community’s quality of life. In addition to its extensive print collections and online resources, the library hosts year-round art exhibits, live music events, book and history clubs, and a wide range of STEAM programming for both adults and youth.
The Lawrence Library, in 2018, opened a spur trail to the Greens Brook Trail behind the library. The only one of its kind at a Massachusetts public library, the trail is accessible to people with motor and visual impairments. The trail also features native plant and pollinator gardens and an always changing ‘Tale Trail’ story board walking trail.
The library is a noted Literary Landmark by the American Library Association's United for Libraries – one of only seven in Massachusetts – in honor of children's author and illustrator Barbara Cooney, who lived in Pepperell for many years. The Lawrence Library was featured prominently in her book Miss Rumphius.
