Job Description

Lawrence Public Library is seeking someone who is passionate about making information accessible to the people of our community. If you love helping others and making a difference in people’s lives, this job is for you. The successful candidate will work with the library’s Information Services department, helping people conduct research, connect to community resources, and pursue their lifelong learning goals.

Here’s what we’ll need you to do/be:

  • Be a team player who takes initiative and brings positive energy to the job!
  • Adapt easily, embrace new ideas, and take an active role in our dynamic environment.
  • Be confident with technology (bonus points for gadget skills!).
  • Stay curious, creative, and always looking for new ways to share information.
  • Love helping people find answers—because there’s more to research than just Google!
  • Use graphic design skills to convey information in a compelling way.
  • Team up with colleagues and community partners to create engaging programs that inform and inspire adults.
  • Keep our nonfiction collection fresh and exciting by creating displays and reviews, and in tip-top shape by shelving and organizing materials. 
  • Guide people through our catalog, databases, and collections like a pro.
  • Spend most of your time as the friendly, go-to resource at the public service desk, assisting patrons in person, by phone, email, and online chat.

Required qualifications:

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends
  • Graphic design savvy
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency with common office suite programs
  • Public service experience
  • Some college credits in the liberal arts or related fields

Preferred qualifications:

  • Library experience
  • Proficiency in another language in addition to English
  • Bachelor’s degree

Schedule for 25 hour position:

  • Thursday, 2-8
  • Wednesday, 9:30-4
  • Tuesday, 9:30-5:30
  • Sunday, 9:30-4

Schedule for 20 hour position:

  • Saturday 9:30-4
  • Thursday, 11:30-8
  • Monday, 9:30-4
