Job Summary
The Equity & Inclusion Coordinator reports to the Human Resources Manager and plays a key role in shaping an equitable, growth-oriented workplace. This position focuses on integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion into internal operations, employee development, and mentoring initiatives. The ideal candidate is passionate about fostering a culture of belonging, supporting career development, and creating meaningful internship and mentorship programs.
Key Responsibilities
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Leadership
- Embed DEI principles into policies, employee programs, and workplace culture.
- Serve as a resource for staff, providing guidance on equity-related concerns.
- Lead the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Anti-Racism, and Accessibility (IDEAA) Committee.
Growth and Learning
- Provide HR support throughout all stages of the employee lifecycle.
- Design and facilitate staff training focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion, leadership, and other professional development opportunities.
- Develop strategies to track and assess learning gaps and progress across the organization.
Mentorship and Internship Programs
- Create and manage structured mentorship opportunities for staff.
- Develop and oversee our many internship programs, providing hands-on experience in various library departments.
- Build relationships with local schools, universities, and community partners to foster talent pipelines.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources (DEI certification is a plus), Business Administration, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience in HR, training and development, or a related area.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to coach staff at all levels.
- Excellent communication and public speaking abilities.
- A data-driven, action-oriented approach to program development and evaluation.
- Ability to serve as a Person in Charge (PIC) five to six Saturdays or Sundays per year.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience creating and implementing policies.
- Background in mentoring, internship coordination, or professional development programs.
- Familiarity with public libraries or nonprofit organizations.

Position Details:
- Hours: 32 hours per week, full-time
- Pay: $28.02 per hour

Lawrence Public Library is located in the heart of downtown Lawrence, Kansas, a quintessential Midwestern college town of 90,000 where you'll find both the University of Kansas and Haskell Indian Nations University.
