Tuesday – Wednesday 2:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Thursday 3:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Definition:

This position helps to ensure that the library has a positive impact on the community as a whole by supporting the Bilingual Outreach Coordinator’s efforts in identifying and developing strong relationships with diverse community partners to provide equitable delivery of library services.  The Bilingual Outreach Technician assists the Outreach Department in helping to execute a wide variety of programs, services and events, with an emphasis on serving customers who have great need for services and barriers to receiving those services. 

Principal Duties:

·         Assist in delivering library programs and resources that support literacy, lifelong learning, workforce development and digital skills.

·         Assist in delivering services and programs to meet the needs of the traditionally underserved, such as those with limited functional English skills.

·         Support library participation in community events and present programs at locations outside of the library.

·         Provide instruction and workshops on the use of library materials, the catalog system, information gathering and research, online databases, library equipment and technology in English and Spanish.

·         Provide software/hardware instruction and support to users with a wide variety of computer skill levels.

·         Collect and report on statistics pertaining to all outreach activities.

·         Assist in the translation of the library’s materials, signage, website, and other information.

·         Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.

Working Environment:

Work is done in a standard library environment, which includes exposure to dust. Work requires standing, walking, bending and stooping, use of hands to make repetitive grasping motions, lifting of up to 25 pounds, pushing and pulling of book carts, and sufficient vision to clearly read book labels. May require climbing at least two steps on a ladder or step stool and reaching above shoulder level. Work requires repetitive motion to enter data on keyboard.  Schedule requires availability on weekdays, evenings, and weekends.  Work frequently involves confidentiality, reasoning, problem solving, and attention to detail. Transportation to/from outreach events may involve use of own vehicle and/or city provided vehicles.

Qualifications:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university and two or more years of clerical and/or technical experience in a public library or area related to specific assignment. Special Qualifications: Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency required. Possession of a valid Colorado driver’s license.

Performance at this level requires advanced customer service skills, knowledge of library operations, and sufficient knowledge to provide competent reference assistance.
