Job Description
The Faculty Director of Reference and Instructional Services is a tenure-stream faculty position reporting to the Associate Director for Public Services of the University Libraries. The Reference and Instructional Services Department serves the university community by providing collections, programs, and services that meet the information needs of the social sciences and the humanities, as well as instructional programs in support of the undergraduate core curriculum. This position may also be involved in major space and program re-allocations. Responsibilities include management and supervision of departmental activities and personnel, leadership in instructional and reference services, policy setting and future management of a learning commons. The position supervises a department that consists of 8 FTE faculty, 7.5 FTE classified staff, and an assigned student budget. Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are scholarly activity and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado at Boulder.
Additional Info & Requirements
The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month) tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment will be at the assistant professor, associate professor, or full professor level. Starting salary range will be $60,000-$69,000. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health plans, group life insurance, TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.
Requirements include:
At least five years of relevant experience in a reference setting including supervision
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work in a collaborative environment
Effective oral and written communication skills
Experience in working in a climate of change
Preferences include:
A significant record of librarianship research/publication and service
Record of increasing administrative responsibility
Degree(s) in social sciences and/or humanities field
