Job Description
Answers inquiries concerning field materials received from internal personnel and outside users.
Accepts new deposits; determines appropriateness of offered material by following guidelines and policies of National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
Compiles inventories of individual deposits following NARA guidelines
Readies deposits for transfer to NARA, including the following:
Eliminating inappropriate material from individual deposits (i.e. published materials, personal papers, maps without annotations, etc.)
Updating existing inventories to eliminate references to deleted items
Boxing deposits for transfer according to NARA guidelines
Physically transferring deposits to Denver NARA Develops database to reflect what has been transferred to NARA
Additional Info & Requirements
The Field Records Collection consists of; archive of field notes, correspondences, unpublished manuscripts and maps, analysis reports and other data created or collected by USGS scientists, who are not retired or deceased. Also includes materials by current USGS geologist who are done with certain projects.
Three primary aspects/ job functions required to support the Field Records Collection
1) Growing Collection - Acceptance of new materials
Accessioning/ Logging in / Organizing
Cataloging
Preservation
2) Serving Patrons
Reference Services required to Library/ Collection patrons
3) Working with Federal records officer and National Archives and Records Administration - NARA guidelines
Retrieving / returning USGS materials currently at NARA Records Center
Submitting new materials to NARA
