The Carbon County Library System is seeking a Director-a leader who excels at empowering staff and partnership building. We are looking for a Director who will lead us in developing a vision and a realistic strategic plan, and who is able to energize staff through participatory management. In cooperation with a five member appointed Board of Trustees, the Director will develop and oversee a $611,000 budget and a staff of 23 (11 FTE). Responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing and coordinating all activities of a rural library system, which include the Main Library in Rawlins and branches located in seven small communities in the county. The Carbon County Library System is a member of the Wyoming Libraries Database (WYLD) Network, a fully integrated statewide automated library system. The Director must possess a thorough understanding of library technologies. Additional desirable qualifications include strong fiscal management skills and the ability to be a positive presence in the community. Other qualities include strong support for staff development and the ability to work effectively within a rural library setting. Rawlins is an expanding community of almost 9,000 residents located in south-central Wyoming on Interstate 80 with tremendous opportunities for lovers of the outdoors. Over 50% of the county is public land with two national forests, trout fishing, hunting, hiking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing as only some of the possibilities. Carbon County is the Pronghorn Capital of the World and covers 7,896 square miles of wild west history with only 1.9 people per square mile.
