Job Description
Location: Byers Branch Library, 675 Santa Fe Dr. at W Seventh Ave.
May be scheduled at any Denver Public Library location.
Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the cluster and may include evening and weekend hours.
Duties and Responsibilities: Join the Children’s and Family Cluster and create positive experiences for library customers, individually and in groups. Plans, schedules and implements group visits for children from birth through middle school in the library and in external locations. Provides services and outreach activities designed to educate and promote library usage with an emphasis on children’s services. Provides outreach to children between the ages of 0-5 years and their caregivers. Creates programming for youth during out of school time. Implements programming that aligns with DPL and utilizes above knowledge. Assists customers in circulation, reference and readers/media advisory activities. Works cooperatively with other staff, volunteers and supervisors. Oversees library operations as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of library services for infancy through adolescence and current research in early literacy and child/brain development. Knowledge of early literacy best practices in library and community settings. Knowledge of the Public Library Association’s ECRR initiative and supporting materials/resources. Knowledge of positive youth development practices. Knowledge of children’s literature. Interprets, communicates, and presents information, both orally and in writing. Thrives in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Demonstrates positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, volunteers and community. Creatively problem-solves, negotiates and handles stressful situations in a positive manner. Is innovative, flexible and well organized. Spanish language skills a plus.
Experience: Two years of experience teaching or presenting information to children and their caregivers.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field.
