Job Description
Location: Community Technology Center, Denver Public Library, 14th & Broadway
Status/Schedule: This is a temporary position consisting of a total of 400 hours, made possible by a grant to the Denver Public Library that will end on or before September 30, 2011. The schedule will be between 20 and 40 hours per week, and will be determined by the needs of the department and could include evening and weekend.
Salary Range: $18.87 per hour starting salary
Duties and Responsibilities: Works closely with the Community Technology Center (CTC) Manager, Senior Librarian, CTC Team, other Library staff, and docents to help build a comprehensive technology and job-seeking training program for female ex-offenders at Denver Public Library. Assists in developing and implementing a core curriculum of computer classes based on the individual needs of the students participating in the Free to Learn pilot project.
The primary duties will be:
• Assisting with curriculum planning
• Developing instruction plans and materials
• Providing one-on-one computer lessons for female ex-offenders
• Documenting curriculum development so that it is easily replicable at other libraries interested in targeted services to ex-offenders
• Helping to develop a sustainable marketing campaign to attract the best candidates for the project
• Assisting with development and analysis of class evaluations
• Communicating with community partners to create a network of support services for female ex-offenders
Knowledge, Skills
and Abilities: Knowledge of the Web, technology, online trends, and the needs of today’s job seekers. Knowledge of office practices and procedures, including skill in operating a computer and working with attention to detail. Skill in problem solving, negotiating and handling stressful situations in a positive manner. Skill in multi-tasking and prioritizing. Skill in troubleshooting software glitches desirable. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with diverse customers, coworkers, and community. Skill in training a wide variety of learners. Ability to embrace the challenge of learning new tools, software and technology. Must be willing to take required safety and other training.
Experience: Two years of experience teaching or presenting information to a variety of audiences.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field.
