Job Description
Position Summary: Teaches and develops library instruction classes. Develops instructional materials in print and electronic format. Shares reference desk duties, including some nights and weekends. Serves as collection development liaison to departments as assigned. Serves on local and state library and campus committees. Reports to the Coordinator of Reference and Instructional Services. Department Specific Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for scheduling library instruction classes and teaching library instruction classes as requested by faculty. Provides assistance to students and library users at the Reference Help Desk. Works closely with the web services librarian and web committee in developing web-based reference tools. Works with other Librarians in Reference and Instructional Services in the evaluation of publications, facilities and collections as well as plans for new or improved services. Works with other Librarians in Reference and Instruction in making requests for department equipment and furniture. Serves on the Collection Development Committee and develops book and serial collections in the specific areas in conjunction with departmental faculty liaisons. Contributes to the overall planning, development and implementation of library programs and policies. Serves on local and state library and University committees. Participates in professional associations and other appropriate venues for continuing education and professional development. Performs other related duties as assigned and undertakes special projects as needed. Required: Master's degree from an ALA accredited library program. Familiarity with information resources in a variety of formats. Preferred: Teaching or library instruction experience in an academic library. Knowledge of teaching and research methodologies and their application to information literacy. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to learn and apply new teaching technologies quickly. Demonstrated evidence of initiative and resourcefulness, have a strong customer service orientation, a proven ability to work collaboratively and independently, and a commitment to understanding and serving the needs of a diverse environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
