Job Description
REFERENCE LIBRARIAN Date Posted: February 2, 2007 Application Deadline: February 16, 2007 Location: Ross-Cherry Creek Branch Library305 Milwaukee St. at E. Third Ave. Status/Schedule: Regular, part-time, 20 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the Library and will require some evenings and weekends. Salary Range: $18.28- $22.83 per hour starting salary range$18.28 - $29.15 per hour full salary rangeThe City and County of Denver benefit package will be offered. Background Info: Become a Librarian at the Ross-Cherry Creek Branch and bring a fast-paced, materials-rich environment to customers of all ages. The key role of this branch will be to meet the needs of the library customer who is looking to the library to provide the newest and most popular materials. A strong emphasis will be placed on providing materials and reference services in an exciting, efficient and merchandized environment. Duties and Responsibilities: Creates lifelong library customers by implementing library services designed for customers of all ages seeking popular materials and quick service. Provides readers advisory and reference assistance. Designs engaging displays for all ages. Participates in programming, community outreach and collection maintenance activities. Communicates effectively about issues and initiatives with customers, staff, and administration. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of publishing trends. Knowledge and experience with developing and presenting story times for young children. Skill in eye-catching display design and merchandizing of library materials. Skill in providing reference, reader’s and media advisory service to all ages. Ability to thrive working in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups. Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers, and community. Ability to creatively problem-solve, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner. Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Ability to perform dynamic story times for a wide age range. Experience: Experience in providing high volume, innovative library service. Education: A Master’s in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
