Job Description
The Programmer Analyst develops, maintains, and troubleshoots web based applications in support of Douglas County Libraries organizational strategies and goals relative to external and internal communication, by working with the District’s web team to build a solid programming infrastructure and framework based on industry best practices. This position is responsible for development of high performance web applications. Work is performed with considerable independent judgment and initiative. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: • Scripting and programming for applications developed in-house, customization and enhancement of Open-source Drupal and VuFind portfolios and other Open-source applications and vendor applications, working with vendor or Open-source Application Programming Interfaces (API’s), and management of in-house databases. • Develops end-user interfaces and dynamic forms for web applications using a variety of scripting languages and frameworks including PHP, JavaScript, CSS, XML/XSL, and RSS. • Works with project stakeholders as needed to further develop or enhance application designs or features. • Collaboratively works with library Systems personnel to implement and configure web servers in support of web development activities, authentication technologies and server security. • Works on all District web sites, including the main website, the children’s website, the DCL Foundation website, the Douglas County History and Research Center website, and the Staff Exchange internal intranet website. • Incorporates interactivity with flash and graphics for an appealing and user-friendly design experience. • Creates positive experiences for library patrons by effectively and efficiently performing job tasks; presents a positive image of the library in attitude, communications and appearance while performing duties in both the public and staff areas. • Demonstrates a professional, positive, cooperative, team-oriented working relationship with staff, coworkers and volunteers. • Stays current on DCL policies, processes, procedures and technologies required to perform work duties. • Promotes DCL’s culture of safety by following library safety policy guidelines and safety rules. Practices effective personal and branch safety. • Performs other work duties as assigned.
Additional Info & Requirements
• Solid understanding of and experience with database design and SQL queries. • Working knowledge of programming and scripting for web applications in languages such as PHP and JavaScript. • Knowledge of Drupal CMS to include installing, configuring, and theming Drupal-based websites; defining standards used to create and code reusable Drupal modules/libraries. • Knowledge of interface development using CSS, Ajax, jQuery. • Experience working in a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) environment. • Familiarity manipulating Views, Content Types, and other exportable objects in code is required. • Strong experience with the Domain module, using a shared database to drive multiple sites is required. • Previous experience working with a team of technical developers with successful delivery of web-based applications is required. • Must have experience with single sign-on across multiple websites. • Ability and desire to learn new applications/processes/environment is required. • Ability to excel in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment on a small, focused team is required. • Must be a self-starter requiring minimal supervision. • Project management skills are preferred. • Strong organizational skills are required
