Job Description
The Library Associate provides customer service and back room support for library operations. Welcomes and offers assistance to patrons. Performs circulation functions. Prepares library materials. This is a part-time, no benefits position. Work hours will include some days, evenings, and weekends.
The listed examples of work are not intended to be all-inclusive. They may be modified with additions, deletions, or changes as necessary. Assists patrons in identifying, locating, and using library resources to include print, non-print, and digital resources. Performs all circulation functions. Includes creating patron accounts, issuing cards, checking materials in and out, maintaining patron database, and collecting fines. Assists patrons in the use of library computers and provides assistance with use of email, word processing, and other common software. Provides guidance to patrons with basic functions such as saving and printing of documents. Assists Reference and Children’s Librarians with collection maintenance through weeding shelving, and merchandising materials. May assists with programs and story times. Performs other duties as assigned and required.
Additional Info & Requirements
Must have basic knowledge of public library operations, and maintaining database records. General information technologies to include portable computing devices and research techniques. Basic computer skills required for accurate data entry and records management. Intermediate skills needed to instruct patrons in the use of common software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, email, downloadables, and search engines. Intermediate communication skills required to work in a team-oriented environment. Also needed to interact with patrons and provide customer service. Work is performed in a standard library environment, requiring standing and walking for extended periods of time. Work may also be performed in a standard office environment, requiring sitting for extended periods of time. Must be able to push and pull a full book cart (up to 20 lbs/force) and perform occasional lifting (up to 30 lbs). Job requires visual and physical capabilities to perform data entry, filing, and to work on computers and associated equipment for prolonged periods of time.
