Job Description
The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites applications from and nominations of experienced, highly-motivated, and innovative professionals for the position of Associate Dean of Libraries. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Associate Dean will play a critical role in continuing the evolution of a 21st century research library at the University. As a member of the Libraries Executive Committee and Management Team, the Associate Dean works collaboratively to articulate the vision and strategic direction of the Libraries. The Libraries underwent a significant reorganization in 2012. As a result, the organization is poised for transformational change in the provision of services, collections, and instruction as well as increased emphasis on the areas of data management, e-science, special collections and archives, digital collections, and scholarly communications. The Associate Director will play an important role in maintaining the momentum gained in the reorganization process by helping move the Libraries forward in these areas.
The Libraries seeks an individual with an inclusive leadership style and strong communication skills, including the ability to consider issues from a variety of perspectives. This position currently oversees and coordinates the operations of the Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, Sciences, Archives & Special Collections, and Metadata Services departments (approximately 40 faculty and 60 staff). Working with the Executive Committee and Management Team, the Associate Dean plays a leadership role in the formulation and assessment of Libraries-wide services, policies, and diversity initiatives. The Associate Dean must be committed to user-centered services delivery and will collaborate with the Dean, Senior Associate Dean, and department directors as well as campus constituencies to develop strategic directions and assess service quality.
Significant parts of the responsibilities of this position are research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder.
Appointment and Salary: The successful candidate will be appointed as a full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty member. Depending upon professional experience and demonstrated accomplishments in scholarly activity, creative work, and service, appointment may be at the level of assistant professor or above. Preference will be given to candidates at the associate professor level. The salary is competitive and benefits include 22 working days vacation; 10 paid holidays; liberal sick leave; University group health care plan; group life insurance; TIAA/CREF retirement/annuity; and support for scholarly/professional activities.

• MLS from an ALA-accredited institution;
• At least seven years of experience in an academic or research library, with a proven record of successful leadership and demonstrated ability to manage librarians and staff;
• Demonstrated success in leading and fostering innovation in a rapidly changing and complex environment;
• Knowledge of current practices and trends in the use and integration of emerging technologies to deliver information resources, services, and instruction in an academic and/or research environment;
• Ability to work effectively and creatively in a technologically complex and rapidly changing library and university system;

• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
