Job Description
The University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus’ Health Sciences Library (HSL) seeks an entry-level, innovative, service-oriented Web Services Librarian (WSL). The successful candidate will coordinate, develop and maintain web sites and services for the library. These include web resources provided by vendors, the library’s web site, mobile site, catalog, repository, weblog, and other web sites and services as required. The WSL works closely with the rest of the HSL IT Department to administer the library web servers. The WSL leads the library’s internal advisory Web Committee, and works with the library’s Access Services and Education & Reference departments in facilitating and troubleshooting end-user access to online resources.
Major responsibilities:
?Designs and maintains library and library catalog web pages. Follows current library best practices in implementing web graphics, page layouts, and site navigation.
?Coordinates and conducts meetings of an advisory Web Committee for the library.
?Works with all library departments as well as end users in developing and maintaining the library catalog, serials portal, link resolver, discovery service, institutional repository and any new web interfaces for the library (whether such interfaces are obtained externally or developed internally).
?Together with IT and other library staff, troubleshoots electronic resource access problems as needed. Coordinates and conducts tracking efforts and informs patrons and staff of ongoing electronic resource issues.
?Works with external partners and vendors to provide access and resolve issues with electronic resources and services.
?Assists with the Digital Collections of Colorado repository (Digitool platform), and performs administrative duties, as needed.
?Co-administers and helps create library intranet and other web resources intended for staff use.
?Co-administers, customizes, updates, securitizes and assists in maintenance of a content management system (CMS) for library employees, currently Drupal. Supports and trains staff on the use of this CMS.
?Helps to create, implement, and explain guidelines for library web content creators.
?Coordinates and conducts limited usability and accessibility testing of library web pages and electronic library resources. Where possible, coordinates and directs improvements to usability and accessibility.
?Maintains usage statistics about library web sites and interfaces.
?Maintains custom Perl-based statistical program for EZProxy usage statistics.
?Assists with patron authentication methods and data loads for HSL systems.
?Keeps current with trends and issues relating to web and library technologies.
?Participates in campus and library committee work.
?Assists staff members in IT and other units on web-related tasks and projects.
?Works with diverse individuals throughout the organization.
?Works both independently and as a team member on a variety of simultaneous projects in an evolving, dynamic, collaborative environment.
?Supervises the Web Applications Developer.
Professional Development: The Web Services Librarian is expected to assume personal responsibility for designing and implementing a plan for continuing professional development.
Supervision: Reporting to the library’s Head of Information Technology, the WSL supervises one IT staff position, the Web Applications Developer
Additional Info & Requirements
Preferred:
•Supervisory experience.
•Experience in an academic or health sciences library.
•Demonstrated experience in designing and maintaining library web sites.
•Ability to write concisely and effectively for the web.
•Experience with web server software such Apache.
•Demonstrated experience with Drupal, or other content management systems.
•Demonstrated experience with Linux or Unix environments.
•Demonstrated experience with one or more of the following: Perl, JavaScript, PHP or .NET.
•Ability to construct SQL queries, or, demonstrated knowledge of at least one of the following relational databases: Oracle, MySQL, MS-SQL.
•Demonstrated experience with customization of web-based vendor interfaces, such as, Serials Solutions’ 360 Link and Summon, and Innovative Interfaces’ Millennium.
•Experience with designing or maintaining mobile web sites and/or mobile applications.
•Administrative experience with EZProxy or other web-based proxy services;
