Date Posted: March 16, 2007 Application Deadline: Open Until Filled Location: Children’s Library at the Central Library, 13th & Broadway, Byers Branch at 675 Santa Fe Dr, Pauline Robinson Branch at 5575 E. 33rd Ave., Valdez Perry Branch at 4690 Vine St.,Westwood Branch at 1000 S Lowell Blvd. Status/Schedule: Regular, full-time, 40 hours per week. The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department. Salary Range: $31.17 - $38.94 starting salary range; $31.17 – $49.74 full salary range. The City and County of Denver benefits package will be offered. It’s a role for an inspirational leader who empowers Children’s Services staff, volunteers and community collaborators to achieve the Library’s strategic vision. A key role is to bring library services to children age birth to five years to ensure children start school with the early literacy and language experiences necessary for their learning readiness. Duties and Responsibilities: LEADERSHIP: Guides the Children’s Services staff and volunteers with an inspirational, forward looking vision that encourages innovation and best practices. Serves on the Public Services management team and works in collaboration with other managers to formulate and achieve the Library’s strategic initiatives. Creates a work environment that encourages high performance. Develops and sustains strong relationships with staff from all library divisions and community partners. MANAGEMENT: Develops budgets, controls expenditures and develops procedures for responsible use of all resources. Delegates responsibility and authority to Senior Librarians and other team members. Directs staff selection, development, training, discipline and evaluation. Works with Facilities and Security to ensure library facilities are clean, safe and attractive.TECHNICAL: Stays current on library trends and community needs for children’s services. Develops and implements children’s programs and outreach services. Maintains regular communication with other agencies, institutions and organizations serving children. Recommends changes in workflow and operational procedures. Uses available tools and programs to develop communications and presentations. TEAMBUILDING: Fosters a collaborative team environment. Manages a Children Services group based on trust and open communication. Communicates effectively with colleagues, internal and external customers Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of current library trends and technology. Knowledge of managerial principles and practices. Ability to develop the Library’s mission, values and vision into action plans for children’s services. Ability to bring a positive energy, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor to the workplace. Ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Ability to demonstrate innovation and flexibility. Skill in selecting, training, motivating,evaluating and supervising staff. Skill in creative problem solving and negotiating stressful situations in a positive manner. Experience: Three years of professional library experience. Two years supervisory experience. Education: A Masters in Library Science from an ALA accredited organization.
