Job Description
Working in the office of library development, this position works with public library leadership and state partners to develop quality libraries and strong communities. Major Duties and Responsibilities: A. Serve as a leader for public libraries and for community development by facilitating and supporting strategic planning, policy development, and implementation. B. Oversee the ongoing development of public library standards and guidelines and provide consultation and training to libraries and library boards on standards, best practices, and methods for improving Colorado communities and library services. C. Develop strategic partnerships and initiatives that improve community development and public library capacity to meet community needs. D. Assist state and local library or government entities in gaining a better understanding of library law and its application in library development. E. Support communities in developing sustainable public library governance structures. F. Network with and connect library innovators to further strengthen public libraries for future success and effectiveness. G. Coordinate meetings and groups interested in aspects of library functions such as management, regional networking, professional development, marketing, fundraising, leadership development, and diversity. H. Represent the State Library with projects and in meetings with state stakeholders, regional and local library groups, community organizations, and the general public.
The Community
Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. • Minimum of five (5) years professional, supervisory experience in a public library or library-related field. • Demonstrated experience with facilitation. • Excellent social and emotional intelligence skills. • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Demonstrated ability to prioritize independently and identify when to seek input in setting priorities. • Ability and willingness to travel in-state (day trips and overnights) on a regular basis. • The ability to pass a background check, which includes a motor vehicle records search. Preferred: • Master’s degree in Library Science. • Experience as a public library director and/or board member. • Experience with strategic planning for community development. • Experience with managing state-wide projects and/or partnerships. • Experience in delivering online and face-to-face instruction and training.
