Job Description
Provide excellent customer service by being an enthusiastic, approachable presence at the Library service desks. As part of a proactive, high energy team this position will accurately answer customer questions, promote books and reading to library customers of all ages; assist in programming and outreach which promotes literacy and supports life long learning; help support library services; including assisting in the growth and maintenance of our excellent collection of books, e-resources, and audiovisual materials. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The following duties are illustrative only and are not intended to be all inclusive: • Provide excellent customer service including greeting customers, answering questions and resolving issues in person and on the phone. • Assist in the maintenance of customer accounts including handling confidential information and financial transactions. • Assist with library programs and outreach. • Support the daily transactions of the library. • Support, participate in and promote library programs and initiatives. • Prepare library materials for customer use. • Using online software and databases to manage accounts, study rooms and material sources. • Assist in the management and inventory of supplies and resources. • Attend and participate in staff meetings and committees. QUALIFICATIONS: • Knowledge of basic library functions and procedures • Excellent customer service skills • Proficiency in the operation of equipment necessary to perform the functions of the job • Strong computer skills • Fluency in written and spoken Spanish preferred • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing • Ability to perform a variety of assignments requiring some exercise of independent judgment • Ability to think and act appropriately under pressure • Ability to work effectively in a team setting • Familiarity with Sirsi/Dynix Horizon a plus • Perform other related work as required and assigned. • Complete special projects as assigned, in a timely manner. EVIDENCE OF QUALIFICATIONS: TRAINING - One or more years of college Experience – Six months of general library work or similar customer service work or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the required knowledge, skills and abilities. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Flexibility, forward thinking, and a positive attitude.
