Job Description
Overview:
The Public Services Specialist has administrative duties requiring a comprehensive knowledge of library operations, policies and procedures and emphasizes the responsibility of each employee to deliver accurate, timely, and courteous service. They provide effective management and direction of the daily activities of the LCCC Library’s Public Services unit, including circulation of library materials, managing patron accounts, Interlibrary Loan and services to distance students, stacks and public facilities maintenance, and administration of Circulation module of integrated library system database. They are responsible for hiring, training, supervising and evaluating part-time employees and assist in the training of other library staff. They also serve in an advisory role to Library administration in strategic planning, technology development and enhancement of Library public services.

Compensation: low to mid $40,000s.

Essential Functions:
Customer Service:
Investigates and resolves problems or issues affecting unit services through interactions with patrons, library staff, and other key library contacts, exercising excellent judgment and discretion as appropriate
Ensures working order and availability/security of library public facilities, equipment and other resources
Contributes positively to the Library’s service culture, by effective communication of Public Services schedules, policies, procedures, and programs to all user groups, internal and external, which may include duties such as: updating library voice mail and marquees, requesting updates to policies or schedules posted on website, posting signage around the library or campus, sending notifications to staff and listservs, etc.
Effectively and efficiently utilize and search computerized bibliographic databases as applicable to providing public services
Provide reference services at the information desk, including some night and/or weekend hours
Serves as the Library’s liaison for circulation, interlibrary loan, and resource sharing initiatives, programs and services at the local, regional and national level
Works collaboratively with other campus units
Management:
Supervises Classified staff (e.g. Library Technicians), part-time employees (.75 FTE) and student library assistants (3.0 FTE) assigned to area of responsibility including hiring, evaluating, training, disciplining and recommending dismissal as necessary
Manages multiple calendars and schedules to appropriately staff service points to meet users’ needs
Performs circulation duties as staffing patterns dictate
Circulation:
Plans, organizes, maintains and manages the processes and operations of the Public Services unit including: circulation (i.e. materials movement, WYLDCAT), interlibrary loan, equipment checkout, security, and facilities maintenance, patron account services (including billing and collections). Manages the activities of the assigned division (e.g. planning, implementing, administering, and evaluating projects and services impacting Library operations)
Recommends, formulates, and administers library public service policies and procedures in collaboration with Library Administration for the College community and the public, and maintains active, effective communication with Library employees and user groups
Planning:
Participates in long-range planning, working in collaboration with library management, library staff, and others to develop strategic plans supporting library public services.
Evaluates new technology and products and makes appropriate recommendations for purchase and implementation.
Provides project management for applicable technology deployments
Data/Technical:
Work closely with the State Library to maintain and update circulation functions in ILS (Integrated Library System) ensuring that problems are promptly resolved and that efficiencies have been researched and implemented
Utilizes and customizes Library’s online systems and software that deliver essential management information and advance services in support of the Library’s circulation, interlibrary loan/document delivery, and resource sharing programs
Interlibrary Loan
Supervises and ensures the successful delivery of interlibrary loan and document delivery services:
Oversees the operation of VDX, OCLC searching, requesting, tracking, processing of all requests, and communication with patrons
Maintains copyright records, produces reports, and ensures copyright compliance
Successful processing of ILL/document delivery invoicing
Production of all monthly statistics
Seeks innovative and creative ways to market, enhance, and improve ILL/document delivery services
Shelf Maintenance:
Maintain library stack and non-book collections including the shifting of library materials when appropriate
Direct shelving of materials including books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, etc., according to library classification system
Assist with maintenance and inventory of the library collection

Additional Info & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in library science or related field.
• Two years of progressively responsible experience related to areas of assignment, including supervisory experience.
• Customer service and conflict resolution experience.
• Database experience – constructing search queries.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with SIRSI Dynix library system and knowledge of library operations.
• Experience creating and/or maintaining databases.
