Job Description

Adam Aircraft Cir., Englewood, CO 80112 and other Library District locations as needed. Starting Salary: Starting at $59,296 per year, dependent on qualifications, plus benefits. Hours: Full-time, exempt level, managerial position. Role: Manages the Library District’s collection and staff by demonstrating strong leadership, creativity and project management. Major Duties and Responsibilities: 30% COLLECTION MANAGEMENT Researches new products and relevant trends, conducts needs assessments, analyzes results, recommends and implements new products and services; develops strategy, communications and training in order to satisfy patrons' needs for an extensive and updated collection. 25% DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT Manages the department by prioritizing goals, making operational decisions, and managing other resources in order to effectively implement department priorities. Manages the department budget by preparing budget recommendations, monitoring expenditures, approving purchase orders, and approving invoices for payment in order to effectively expend appropriated funds. 25% STAFF SUPERVISION Supervises the Acquisitions/Receiving supervisor, the Processing/Cataloging supervisor and collection librarians by setting performance objectives, organizing resources, making implementation decisions, coaching and providing feedback, managing conflict and appraising performance in order to optimize the performance of department staff. 20% VENDOR MANAGEMENT Negotiates vendor contracts and monitors services by researching prices, and comparing products and services in order to obtain the best materials and services at optimal pricing. Expectations: 1. CUSTOMER RELATIONS – Outstanding and personalized customer service. 2. COLLECTION MANAGEMENT – Effectively satisfying patron demands for updated collection items. 3. DEPARTMENT MANAGEMENT – Effective planning, organizing and implementing department initiatives. 4. STAFF SUPERVISION – Optimally performing department staff. 5. VENDOR MANAGEMENT – Effective vendor negotiation and monitoring of services.
Additional Info & Requirements
Previous supervisory experience, required. Equivalent to a college degree, required; MLIS/MLS degree preferred. Management aptitude, including management education and experience; leadership skills; responsibility for outcomes; personal productivity; practical thinking; adaptability; coaching; interpersonal skills; and, business ethics, required. Intermediate software skills, including Windows, Word, Internet Explorer, and Outlook, required. Demonstrated success in developing collections/content, preferred. Experience with successfully managing a collection budget of a million dollars or more, preferred. Demonstrated success in effectively leading teams and operations, required. Ability to travel between facilities, required. Committed to provide outstanding and personalized customer service to patrons, coworkers and customers. Ability to focus on the customer, show integrity, be inclusive, enjoy learning and have fun. Ability to exercise confidence and excitement in the vast technological and online resources the Library District has available.

Established in 1966, the Arapahoe Library District serves more than 200,000 residents living in Arapahoe County. Arapahoe County and other major suburban counties make up the greater metropolitan area surrounding Denver, Colorado. The Arapahoe Library District operates eight branch libraries, an Outreach Service that provides mobile library services, and a library at the County Detention Center, funded by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department. A seven-member Board of Trustees sets the library budget and determines policy.
